Curating / Open / Image
Title
Curating / Open / Image
Description
This short piece discusses the theory and practice of curating images in the networked media culture. It also highlights the tension between ‘openness’ and ‘closure’ that surfaces in the often conflicting approaches to images and other forms of data adopted by various parties, such as image-makers, curators, archivists, writers, publishers and, last but not least, media users. The piece builds on my experience as an academic working in the field of media theory while also being involved in open access publishing, image-based art practice and curatorial work.
